Comparison
Most journaling apps treat your words as their data.
We don't. Here's how that shows up next to the apps you're probably comparing us against. The point isn't to dunk on them — they're well-built. The point is that the choices we made are intentional, and they're choices the others haven't made.
The one difference that matters
On-device AI journaling isn't ours alone any more — Google's Pixel Journal and Apple-powered apps now run a model locally too. But each is locked to one vendor's hardware: Pixel Journal is Pixel-only and has no export; Apple's on-device prompts are iOS-only. Day One now runs some Apple-Intelligence features on-device too, but they are assistive — prompts, titles, highlights — on recent iPhones, not a conversation. Rosebud still sends your entries to the cloud for AI; Journey turns its AI off the moment you enable end-to-end encryption.
Graphophone is the only one that runs real, conversational AI on-device on both iOS and Android — with no daily limits, and yours to export. You never choose between real AI and real privacy, and you're never locked to one company's phone.

Honest advice
Pick the journal that fits.
When to pick someone else
- You want a polished social journal where strangers reply — pick Day One's shared journals.
- You're brand new to journaling and a guided prompt deck is enough — pick Reflectly.
- You're committed to a closed ecosystem (Apple, Google) and want a first-party feel.
When to pick us
- You don't want your inner life on someone else's server.
- You want the AI to be useful without becoming surveillance.
- You want a journal that runs offline and exports cleanly.
- You care about a paper trail of every model call the app ever made.
